5 Quick and Fun Tips for Hunting Solo

As much as many of us enjoy hunting with family or friends, there are many times when schedules simply do not line up and you find yourself hunting all by yourself. While this should not be considered a disadvantage, there are a few things you can do in order to stay safe and have more success in the field when hunting alone! Here are 5 Quick and Fun Tips for Hunting Solo!

Hunting solo can be an incredible experience!

1. Let Someone Know Your Hunting Plans

We never like to share our secret hunting spots, but if you find yourself hunting alone, it is a good idea to let someone else know the area you will be in, and when you plan on returning. If something bad were to happen, the last thing you want is to not be found when you might need help! At the very least, leave a simple note with the general area and intended plans in case you find yourself in a pickle.

2. Have a Plan if Successful

Killing a deer all by yourself can be a very memorable experience, but getting one taken care of after the harvest can be a big chore if you are alone. Make plans on how you are going to get your deer out of the field and taken care of if you have a successful hunt. This is especially true if your buddies are not able to come out and help you.

3. Bring Emergency Gear and Extra Supplies

While you should always bring emergency gear like a first aid kit when hunting, if you are hunting alone then you might want to bring a little extra supplies. Make sure your cell phone is fully charged in case you need to make any emergency phone calls or consider investing in a satellite communicator such as the Garmin Inreach. If hunting in cold weather, bring extra warm clothes. Extra water and emergency supplies can go a long way if you find yourself in a bad situation where it might take some time for people to get to you.

4. Hunt Differently

When you are hunting by yourself, you are going to want to adjust your hunting tactics accordingly. Hunting with others will be very different than hunting alone, and when you are on a solo mission you can make these decisions much quicker. The specific technique and tactics that you use will largely depend on the species you are hunting, the time of year, and preferred hunting methods. In general, hunting by yourself is a very different game than hunting with a buddy.

5. Relax and Enjoy

A major benefit of hunting alone is the added silence and serenity that comes along with it. Some hunters might be afraid of hunting by themselves, stressed out by the possibilities of what could go wrong with nobody there to help them. If you find yourself having to hunt by yourself, try to relax and enjoy the experience. If you are fully prepared, you shouldn’t need to stress about the worst case scenarios because you are ready. Enjoy the peace and quiet that comes with hunting by yourself!
