Here’s What Most Bass Anglers Don’t Understand About Their Lures

While bass fishing is the most popular form of fishing in the country, there are still plenty of things that even seasoned anglers don’t quite understand about certain lures and baits. With this in mind, what are some things that you should be aware of? Let’s go over some common misconceptions that most bass anglers might have with their favorite lures.

Some Lures are Designed to Be Fished Slow

While most bass anglers will use different methods and retrieval speeds with different lures, many do not know that certain lures are designed to be fish extremely slow. So slow, in fact, that you might think that the lure would simply float up to the surface if you do not reel it in a little faster. When getting a new lure, it is important to understand what exactly it is designed to do and how you can best fish it. When in doubt, test out different speeds to see if you get different results with it.

Some Lures are Designed for Certain Fishing Lines

Just like how specific lures are made to be fished at certain speeds, many lures are originally designed to be fished with special fishing lines. The fishing line is probably one of the most misunderstood aspects of bass fishing out there, so it is no surprise that many bass anglers will not pair their lures with the correct options.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of options for fishing lines out on the market. There are different colors, myriad types, materials, brands, diameters, and styles to choose from, but in order to select the right one, you need to first consider the specific lure that you are going to be using with it. Take the time to research what line pairs best with the lure you want to try out!

Lures Can Be Modified

Lastly, most bass anglers do not realize that many lures can be easily modified to help match their specific needs. From adding weight, adjusting the depth, or swapping out hooks, there are plenty of different things that you can do in order to make your lure perfect for your own fishing situations. Are the hooks too small on the crankbait that you are using? Swap them out with something bigger or sharper. Add more weight to your favorite spinner to get into deeper depths on that next cast. With a little bit of experimentation, you can make your lure even better.

Every bass angler most likely has a giant collection of lures to use, but do they know everything about them?
