Are you having a tough time getting the fish to bite any of your lures or baits? We all have this struggle from time to time while fishing. So what do you do when you can’t get a bite out of anything? The answer might be easier than you think: pull out some aluminum foil.
Aluminum foil can be used to enhance your existing lures and hooks, as well as attract more fish to your area. Now I know this sounds a little crazy, but hear me out first. Predatory fish, such as those we target like bass, trout, catfish, sunfish, etc. are always on the lookout for food. Their prey consists of other, smaller fish. In the water, these fish will reflect and refract sunlight just like a shiny piece of aluminum foil will. It is this shine and reflection that will draw in predatory fish. There is a reason that many lures are designed with a shine, as it attracts big fish!
So how does aluminum foil come into the equation?
The foil can be used in a number of different ways. Let’s say you have a lure such as a crankbait that works perfectly in an area but for some reason, it just is not catching any fish. You can try to cover some or all of the crankbait with some aluminum foil in order to make it shine and attract more attention while in the water. This method can be done with any lures, jigs, or spoons in order to change things up and try something different.
Another use might just surprise you. You can actually make a lure just out of aluminum foil! Simply take a hook, and cover it with the foil. Make sure to add some variation and fringe to it so that it covers the hook and will move in the water. If you are in a pinch and cannot get the fish to bite on anything, this could possibly help. It can be especially useful if you are out of lures or need to make one in a tight spot!
Lastly, many anglers will use foil to simply attract fish to an area in order to have some better fishing. They will ball up the foil and hang it out into the water near them, making sure the sunlight is hitting it. As the foil moves in the water, the light will reflect off of it and shine like a beacon to any nearby predatory fish, drawing them in closer so that the anglers can have a go at them.
